A natural product containing all the components of the Pomorie and Burgas salt lakes, with a high magnesium content. Best applied as compresses, baths and frictions.

All the qualities of stabilised Black Sea lye — relaxing, nourishing and hydrating. Enriched with arnica, juniper, rosemary, lavender or grape seed extracts.

Details

Trace elements and minerals penetrate the skin and have a refreshing, energising effect on the whole body.

The only difference between the oils and the gels is their viscosity: oils are more fluid and preferred for full-body massage, gels are ideal for local massage.

Use
Apply some gel or oil to the body and massage into the skin. Leave on for 30 minutes to several hours, then rinse thoroughly with water — without soap or shower gel.

090°The raw material

What is lye?

Black Sea lye is the final product of traditional salt making — the evaporation of seawater. In Bulgaria, salt is produced this way in the salt pans of Burgas (Atanasovsko Lake) and Pomorie (Lake Pomorie). The water of these lakes is far saltier than the sea — locals call it “rapa” — and very rich in organic and mineral substances.

It fills the salt pans, where natural evaporation begins. The salt (NaCl) crystallises into an 8–12 cm layer on the bottom. Above it remains a dense, oil-like, reddish-brown liquid exceptionally rich in magnesium salts — Black Sea lye. It is pumped into special basins and stored for further use.

As a natural product, its colour and smell vary with rainfall and temperature. Lye “ripens” and becomes suitable for therapeutic use in August – September, once it reaches the required density and composition. Its composition is close to that of the healing Pomorie liman mud, which is why its effects are similar.

The highest content is of magnesium salts — MgCl2 and MgSO4. Magnesium is essential for cell energy and metabolism and for the balance of the nervous and muscular systems; it reduces muscle pain and cramps and benefits hair, skin and nails. Stress and fatigue deplete it — so it is important to replenish it after exertion. It is best absorbed through the skin.

ANCHIALO stabilised Black Sea lye

After extraction from the salt pans and before use in cosmetics, the lye undergoes mandatory stabilisation and filtration, which ensure its safety and preserve its beneficial properties for a long time. The finished product is used directly or as the base of our massage gels and oils. Its colour and smell (sometimes sharp) are natural and depend on the year and month of harvest.

How to use lye

  1. 01

    Compresses

    Apply compresses soaked in lye warmed to about 40 °C in a water bath to the problem areas for 15–20 minutes. For people with hypertension, the lye should not be warmed.

  2. 02

    Frictions

    Rub the body with lye using a friction sponge. After 5–10 minutes rinse thoroughly with water — without soap or shower gel.

  3. 03

    Bath

    About 5 litres of lye in 80 litres of water at around 38 °C. The procedure lasts 15–30 minutes, after which the body is rinsed thoroughly.

  4. 04

    Massage

    Local or full-body massage with our massage gels and oils with lye.
